                  Valley of Fear
"You will not be punished," said Holmes earnestly, "But your enemies won't give up if they know you are still alive. You'd better take care of yourself!"
The following was the story of Valley of Fear Mr. Douglas had written in the papers he handed to Watson.
About twenty years ago, a thirty-year old young man named McMurdo was seated on a train. He introduced himself to the passenger next to him he was a member of a Scowrers Lodge, and that he had no choice but to move from where he used to live. Then a workman next to him suggested, "If you run into trouble, you can go to McGinty for help. He is the leader of the Lodge in the area."
After he got off the train, McMurdo came to the apartment which he had been recommended. He was greeted by the landlord's daughter, a pretty and warm-hearted German girl. After the landlord came back, they negotiated and reached to a leasing agreement. Thus McMurdo settled down. During the time of less than a week, McMurdo conquered all the tenants with his charm and became the heart of their attention. He also gained the love of the landlord's daughter.
